Emergency Declared in Calif. as Wildfires Burn

Federal and state firefighters are battling a pair of fierce wildfires in northeast California that have already destroyed eight homes and prompted the precautionary evacuation of a hospital. The news came a day after California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency as more than a dozen wildfires tore through the state, destroying homes and infrastructure and forcing evacuations. California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Dennis Mathisen said the fires will likely continue to rage into the coming weeks.
