5,000-Pound Tree Pins Sleeping Woman, 20, After Falling on Long Island House: Cops

Shocked family members didn't want to comment immediately, but told fire officials that it was a miracle she was okay.

A woman was pinned under a 2 1/2-ton tree for two hours after it came crashing through her Long Island bedroom while she was sleeping early Monday, officials said.

The tree collapsed into the second-story bedroom of the home on Wooleys Lane East just after midnight in Great Neck, according to Nassau County police.

The 20-year-old woman, who was sleeping in her bed when the tree fell, was trapped by the tree and the debris. Emergency responders used hydraulic lifts to hoist the tree and freed her after two hours.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken to North Shore Medical for traumatic injuries. She was listed in serious but stable condition.

Fire officials said the woman was sleeping on her side, which may have saved her life. Some of the cushioning from her bed may have absorbed the shock, they said.

Shocked family members didn't want to comment immediately, but told fire officials it was a miracle the woman survived.

Officials don’t know what caused the tree to fall, but said it was not weather-related. Winds were blowing at a mild 6 mph and conditions were dry at the time the tree fell.

Some neighbors were temporarily left without power after the tree fell over some live wires at the back of the house.
