Following the instructions of a 911 police dispatcher, a suburban New York woman successfully delivered her sister-in-law's baby, officials said.
The 25-year-old woman dialed 911 at about 7 a.m. Saturday and reached Clarkstown police dispatcher Lorraine Monahan.
The woman told Monahan that her sister-in-law was having contractions and needed to get to a hospital.
Monahan asked questions about the pregnant woman's condition, according to a police report.
"It was apparent that the baby was not going to wait," Monahan said, according to the report.
Monahan started to give instructions, and the sister-in-law calmly delivered the baby. Police officers arrived soon after, followed by paramedics and an ambulance.
The 26-year-old mother and her new daughter were taken to Nyack Hospital and were doing well, police said.
