Md. Man Surrenders to Police After Amber Alert; Accused of Abducting Daughter

A Maryland man is facing a number of charges after police say he abducted his 5-month-old daughter.

Deare Marquis Denny, 26, allegedly drove a rental car to a Poolesville home on Hempstone Avenue, where he punched the baby's mother, and took the baby shortly after 3:15 p.m., Montgomery County Police said.

Police said Denny was holding a handgun at the time.

An Amber Alert was issued just before 7 p.m. Later Tuesday evening, Denny turned himself in at a Prince George's County Police station in Beltsville.

He has been charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, abduction by a relative, and hiding a child within the state.

The baby, Drew Marie Denny, was not hurt. She was reunited with her mother.

"The baby has been recovered safely and that's the outcome we wanted in all this," Montgomery County Police officer Nicole Gamard said.
