Mom, Boyfriend Indicted by Grand Jury in Bella Bond Case

A grand jury has returned indictments charging Bella Bond's mother with being an accessory after the fact to her murder, and the mother's boyfriend with the murder itself.

The remains of Bond, 2, were discovered on a beach near Boston's Logan Airport June 25. Her body had been wrapped in a plastic bag.

The indictments charge Michael Patrick McCarthy of Quincy, Massachusetts, with first-degree murder in the child's homicide.

Rachelle Bond of the Dorchester section of Boston is charged with being an accessory after the fact to that murder and with larceny over $250 for allegedly continuing to accept public assistance after she knew of Bella's death.

The indictments move the case to Suffolk Superior Court.

The two are tentatively expected to face arraignment there on Jan. 6. Both pleaded not guilty at earlier arraignments.

A composite image of the little girl, then known as "Baby Doe," was seen by tens of millions of people. After months of investigating, police were finally able to identify her.
