Buffalo State University to Honor East Village Blast Victim

A New York City man killed in last week's building explosion in the East Village will be remembered during a memorial service being held at his state college alma mater in Buffalo.

Nicholas Figueroa was a 2014 graduate of Buffalo State. He and another man were killed and 22 other people were injured when an East Village apartment building exploded last Thursday afternoon. Officials are investigating whether the blast was the result of an attempt to cover up gas siphoning.

Officials at Buffalo State say Figueroa will be remembered during a campus service being held April 10, along with other alumni and members of the college community who have passed away this year.

Figueroa, a bowling alley worker, was on a date at a restaurant when it was rocked by an explosion. The woman with him was injured but survived the blast
