Austin authorities, who are looking for an official cause of death, after a teenager was found dead in his car on Tuesday, aren't ruling out suicide by snake.

According to KXAN, the NBC affiliate in Austin, officials are looking at the possibility the victim, Grant Thompson, let the poisonous snake bite him.

The cobra, believed to have bitten and killed the 18-year-old Central Texas man was found dead on Friday morning.

Austin Animal Protection Supervisor Mark Sloat says a person called 911 early Friday morning to report finding a dead snake. The snake was found on the side of the frontage road of Interstate 35 near the home improvement store parking lot where Grant Thompson was found unresponsive Tuesday. He had puncture wounds on his wrist.

Thompson, who was transporting the snake in his car, was later pronounced dead.

Sloat says the snake will be held as evidence until it's determined what killed Thompson, who worked at a pet shop in his hometown of Temple.

When people searched Thompson's car they found another snake, six tarantulas and a bullfrog.
