Man Shows Up at JFK With 2 Pounds of Cocaine in His Stomach: Officials

A man who flew into John F. Kennedy International Airport was arrested after authorities allegedly found about 2 pounds of cocaine in his stomach during an X-ray, federal officials said Tuesday.

The man, a Jamaican citizen, appeared nervous when he arrived on a flight from Kingston, Jamaica, April 19, authorities said, and they brought him to a private search room as part of routine procedure.

A thorough search of the man revealed nothing, authorities said, but customs officials noted some inconsistencies with his story during follow-up question and sent him to a medical facility near the airport.

Authorities allege the man admitted to ingesting about 70 pellets of cocaine, and an X-ray showed the foreign bodies in his stomach.

The man was arrested and held at the medical facility until the drugs moved out of his system. Authorities said the amount he allegedly ingested was worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The man was indicted on federal narcotics smuggling charges. It wasn't clear if he allegedly ingested the drugs before or after his flight.
