Death Toll ‘Likely' At Least 11 in U.K. Airshow Crash

At least eleven people are "highly likely" to be dead after a plane crashed on a busy southern England road during an airshow, police said Sunday.

Only seven bodies were found in the immediate aftermath of the crash Saturday.

More than 24 hours after the accident, investigators and rescue crews were still combing the site where a Hawker Hunter aircraft performing in the Shoreham Airshow Saturday morning hit several cars on road A27.

"Sadly, as a result of our initial work at the site, which has continued overnight ... we have now identified 11 people who we are treating as highly likely to have died in this tragedy," Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said Sunday. "I am aware that this sounds rather technical, but there are processes that have to be followed," he said.
