Prosecutors in South Texas plan to charge an inmate who they say caused an approximately five-hour lockdown at a county jail after claiming to have come into contact with the Ebola virus.
Nueces County District Attorney Mark Skurka told The Corpus Christi Caller-Times Monday that the 49-year-old man will be charged with giving a false report.
Sheriff Jim Kaelin said the man was arrested on suspicion of a felony drug charge Nov. 6 when he told authorities he felt nauseated and had vomited. He said he had ridden a bus in Mexico with a person who had the deadly virus.
Corpus Christi health officials said the man hadn't been to Mexico and didn't have Ebola.
Kaelin says the hoax cost the county more than $10,000.
