Retired Sheriff's Deputy Fires Gun After Children's Doorbell Prank

A retired Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been charged for firing his gun into the air as he chased after a group of children who rang his doorbell and ran away, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Sung Jin Pak, 48, was at home in Stevenson Ranch in October 2013 when the children repeatedly played the "ding-dong-ditch" prank on him, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said.

Pak, who was employed by the sheriff's department at the time, allegedly ran after the children and opened fire.

Pak faces one misdemeanor count of discharge of firearm with gross negligence, prosecutors said. He is set to be arraigned in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in county jail, prosecutors said.
