FBI Assists Police in Missing Indiana Student Investigation

Federal authorities and Bloomington police are conducting investigative work in Morgan County connected to the 2011 disappearance of an Indiana University student.

FBI spokeswoman Wendy Osborn told The Indianapolis Star on Thursday that federal agents assisted the Bloomington Police Department. In a news release, Bloomington police confirmed their involvement in the "active and ongoing investigation" into Lauren Spierer's disappearance.

Authorities declined to name the exact location on Thursday.

Crews with WTHR in Indianapolis reported seeing agents focused Thursday on a home and barn in the Martinsville area, including sifting through dirt. Cadaver dogs were also seen at the scene.

Spierer's disappearance generated national headlines. The 20-year-old Greenburgh, New York, woman vanished in June 2011, after a night out with friends in Bloomington, Indiana.

Since her disappearance, Spierer's mother, Charlene, has made numerous pleas for information that would help authorities find her.

"There have been so many waiting to hear, waiting to hear, waiting to hear, that never said it was related to Lauren and this is just making me sick now. I want to find Lauren more than anything in the whole wide world and that’s the most important thing. So, if it is, it is, you know, I want to know," Spierer's mother, Charlene, told WTHR Thursday.

Bloomington police have said they received hundreds of tips in the investigation. Law enforcement sources told WTHR Thursday evening investigators have not located any human remains or a body at this point.
