Kern County, California, firefighters came to the rescue of a stray dog Saturday morning, freeing it from a piece of machinery.

The dog had gotten its head stuck in machinery at a manufacturing company that makes Styrofoam at 31381 Pond Road in McFarland, north of Bakersfield, Kern County Fire Department officials said.

Fire officials received a call about the dog from the owner of the company. They responded using olive oil and a hoist to slide its head out of the piece of machinery, officials said.

The rescue took about 20 minutes, fire officials said. A post on the department's Facebook page credited "some creative thinking and a little cooking oil."

The dog was not hurt, and was taken to the Kern County Animal Control Bakersfield facility, they added.
