Fort Hood officials are releasing the name of a 24-year-old soldier found dead outside his off-base apartment after returning from deployment in West Africa.
Officials on Wednesday identified the soldier as Spc. Kendrick Vernell Sneed of Bossier City, Louisiana. After he was found dead Tuesday morning in Killeen, tests for Ebola given as a precaution came back negative.[[288442541,L]]
Sneed entered active duty in 2009 as a specialist in automated logistics. He was assigned to 62nd Engineer Company, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, since June 2012.
A Fort Hood spokesman has said Sneed returned with his unit last week from Liberia, where he helped construct an Ebola treatment camp. The spokesman said Sneed wasn't exposed to patients.
Killeen police are still investigating the death and an autopsy has been ordered.
