A Palestinian boy inspects a bedroom of the damaged Khussa family home after an Israeli strike on Hamas bases in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza strip on March 12, 2016. Israeli planes struck Hamas bases in the Gaza Strip early on March 12, killing a child living near one of the targets and injuring his sister, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said. Yasin Abu Khussa, 10, died in a raid on a base of the group's military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassem Brigades, at Beit Lahiya in the north of the strip, he said -- one of four strikes the Israeli military said it carried out in response to rocket fire into Israel.

The Gaza health ministry says a 10-year-old boy was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a Hamas military base.

It said in a statement that shrapnel from an airstrike on a Hamas base hit a nearby house killing Yassin Abu Khoussa and wounding two of his siblings, one seriously, early Saturday.

Israel carried out five air raids on Hamas facilities, the ministry said.

The strikes came after militants in Gaza fired several rockets at Israel Friday night, causing no injuries. No militant group took responsibility for the barrage.

Israel holds Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, responsible for all attacks from its territory.

Israel is struggling to contain near-daily Palestinian attacks. A Palestinian shooting and stabbing Friday wounded 2 soldiers and a civilian.
