George Zimmerman Pulled Over With Gun in Truck in North Texas

Two weeks after he was acquitted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Florida teenager, George Zimmerman was stopped for speeding in North Texas with a pistol in his glove box, police say.

The officer stopped Zimmerman in the westbound lanes of U.S. 80 in Forney, about 20 miles east of Dallas, at about 12:47 p.m. Sunday.

He told the officer he had a pistol in his glove box, and the officer told Zimmerman to close his glove compartment.

"Don't play with your firearm, OK?" the officer said.

He was the only person in the Honda gray pickup truck, which is registered to him.

"The reason I pulled you over is your speed," the officer said, according to dashboard camera video of the four-minute incident.

Zimmerman told an officer that he was going "nowhere in particular."

"Why do you say that?" the officer asked.

Zimmerman then asked if the officer knew who he was.

At first, the officer seemed to indicate he did not. Then, the officer said, "What a coincidence," apparently believing it was someone else with a similar name.

Asked if he was clear of any warrants, Zimmerman said, "Absolutely."

The officer used his radio to check Zimmerman's name in the police computer. A dispatcher responded he had no warrants.

After a few minutes, the officer returned to Zimmerman's pickup and handed him back his license.

"That's it, sir," the officer said, and Zimmerman pulled back onto the highway.

A spokesman for Zimmerman's legal team said he's baffled that a traffic stop would become national news.
