Groupon Co-Founder Buys $19.5 Million Chicago Mansion

The vintage mansion in Glencoe had the highest residential pricetag in the Chicago area

One of the co-founders of Groupon has bought a mansion in an upscale Chicago suburb for a hefty $19.5 million, which he paid in cash.

Eric Lefkofsky, 45, is now the owner of the home with the biggest pricetag in the Chicago area. The 15,800-square-foot vintage mansion sits on four acres of land next to Lake Michigan in the northern Chicago suburb of Glencoe, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Lefkofsky bought the home from an estate whose beneficiaries included David Helfand, a co-president of Chicago-based Equity Group, and his wife, Leslie Bluhm.

The property reportedly contains a tennis court and a pool, but Lefkofsky plans to expand the amenities, according to the Tribune. The Chicago-based architecture company Studio Gang Architects is working on a nearly $700,000 addition that will house a gym and a spa.

In addition to his role at Groupon, Lefkofsky is one of the co-founders of Chicago-based venture firm Lightbank and several technology companies, including Echo Global Logistics, InnerWorkings and MediaOcean. In 2013, Forbes listed him as No. 395 on its list of the 400 richest people in America.
