Hazmat Called to Ted Cruz's Houston Office

A hazmat team was sent to the Houston headquarters of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign Thursday after a staff member found a mysterious white substance in a letter.

Cruz spokeswoman Alice Stewart says the substance was tested and found to be nontoxic.

Houston firefighters and the FBI went to the campaign headquarters, located on the seventh floor of an office building in southwest Houston, Thursday afternoon after the staff member opened the letter.

Stewart said after initial testing found the substance to be nontoxic, FBI agents removed it for further testing.

FBI spokeswoman Shauna Dunlap referred questions about the testing of the substance to the Houston Fire Department.

A spokesman for the agency didn't immediately return a call.
