A Long Island woman who raised thousands of dollars falsely claiming she had cancer has pleaded guilty to grand larceny, forgery and other charges.
A spokesman for the Suffolk County district attorney says Brittany Ozarowski entered the guilty plea to a 24-count indictment on Monday.
Prosecutors say Ozarowski was a heroin addict. They accused her of soliciting money from friends, neighbors and businesses in her community in Miller Place.
Prosecutors were seeking a prison term of up to seven years for her. But a judge has agreed to allow her to enter a drug treatment program for as much as two years.
Defense attorney George Duncan said Wednesday that Ozarowski is extremely remorseful and welcomes drug treatment.
Ozarowski also will pay more than $10,000 in restitution.
