A homeless man in Aspen, Colorado, won a half-million-dollars on a lottery scratch-off ticket, money he hopes to use to reconnect with his daughter, according to a shelter worker.
Michael Engfors, 61, has been homeless for about six years after losing his business and going thorough a divorce, Jeremy Kowalis, who works at the Aspen Homeless Shelter, told NBC station KUSA of Denver on Monday. Engfors bought a $10 scratch-off lottery ticket, called "Eternal Splendor," at an Aspen gas station Friday afternoon. He spent one last weekend sleeping on the floor of St. Mary Catholic Church before the shelter's director drove him to the lottery office on Monday, Kowalis said.
When Kowalis asked Engfors how he'd use the money, Engfors said that he wanted some skis and really wanted to connect with his daughter who he hadn't seen in over 20 years, KUSA reported.
