How the Truck Attack in Nice Unfolded

Authorities said the driver revved the engine after he drove onto the promenade and started running people down

The man behind the deadly attack in Nice, France, climbed into a 19-ton refrigerator truck and traveled about 1.2 miles, leaving at least 84 dead and many more injured following Bastille Day celebrations, NBC News reported.

In just a few minutes, 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhle left people weeping over bodies, lampposts shattered and signs crushed in the streets.

Bouhle drove slowly, maneuvering past a children’s hospital and onto the promenade, which police had closed down for the celebration. Authorities said that’s when he revved the engine and started to run people down.

At first it seemed like a terrible mistake, but as the truck continued to barrel forward, witnesses said it becomes clear this was no accident.
