10M in South Under Flood Watch as Patricia Looms

Ten million residents in the south-central U.S. are bracing for more rain and a risk of flash flooding this weekend as a slow-moving storm, intensified by Hurricane Patricia, moves through the area, NBC News reported.

According to Lamont Bain, a meteorologist in the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth Office, 2 to 4 inches have fallen across north and central Texas since Thursday. Another 1 to 1-1/2 additional inches could fall in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana on Friday.

Parts of the region could see another 3 to 6 inches — and more than 10 inches locally — through Sunday due to Hurricane Patricia.

The combination of storm and hurricane is not expected to bring similar levels of flooding as the historic rainfall and flash flooding that hit the area last May, leaving 30 people dead in Texas and Oklahoma.
