New ISIS Video: Does ‘Jihadi John' Have Successor?

A new ISIS execution video featuring a masked militant speaking in what appears to be a British accent has raised a troubling question: Does "Jihadi John" have a successor?

The video shows the militant threatening the U.K. and mocking Prime Minister David Cameron before five captives are shot in the head. Cameron's office and Britain's Foreign Office both said they were aware of the video and examining its contents but declined further comment.

The video's similarities to "Jihadi John" propaganda videos — execution-style murders, taunts against the West — were clear and local British media seized on the similarities, reporting that intelligence agencies were chasing leads on who the new masked murderer might be.

U.S. officials said in November they were "reasonably certain" that an airstrike had killed Mohammed Emwazi, who was dubbed "Jihadi John" by hostages who nicknamed him and three British colleagues "The Beatles."
