Intoxicated Bike Thief Knocks Out Teeth in Getaway Crash Into Cement Trash Container

The thief took the unsecured bike from outside a Huntington Beach restaurant before a crash caught on camera

An intoxicated bike thief's getaway in Southern California ended in a painful crash when he lost control of the bike on a Huntington Beach street and faceplanted into a cement trash container, police said.

The bike was stolen Thursday just before midnight from outside a BJs restaurant at Main Street and Walnut Avenue in the beach community. The bike's owner went into the restaurant to pick up an order, then returned outside to find the unsecured bike missing.

The thief did not get far. Security camera video provided by police showed the man struggling to control the wobbling bike before striking a curb and slamming head-first into a cement trash bin on the sidewalk.

The thief, identified only as "an intoxicated male suspect," knocked out a few teeth and fell to the ground, according to police. The man was hospitalized and the bike was returned to its owner.

The bike owner did not want to file a theft report, police said.
