Long Island Woman and Daughter Missing for 3 Weeks Found Safe: Police

A Long Island woman and her teenage daughter who hadn't been heard from since making a spring break trip to New York City late last month were found early Monday in good health, police said.

Iona Costello and daughter Emily were found on the Upper West Side, according to police sources familiar with the investigation. No further details were immediately available.

Costello picked up Emily, 14, at her East Hampton school on March 30 and the pair were believed to have driven to Manhattan to see a show and visit a museum or two.

When Costello failed to get in touch with employees at her Greenport horse farm and her teenage daughter didn't return to school after spring break, their family and friends worried that something had gone terribly wrong and contacted authorities.

Costello's SUV, a Dodge Durango, was found Wednesday in a parking garage on 47th Street in the theater district, where it had been since March 30, police said. Relatives had been leaving messages on the cellphones of mother and daughter to no avail before they were found.

Costello's credit cards and ATM card were not used since they were reported missing, police said

She has no known criminal record or history of mental illness, he added.
