Lowe's Employee, 23, Dies When Wood Falls on Him

A stack of lumber fell on and killed a worker at a Lowe's store in Lubbock on Friday, prompting an investigation by federal workplace safety regulators.

The 23-year-old man died when a rack of wood fell on him about 11:20 a.m., Lubbock Fire Department spokesman Steve Holland said Friday.

Grief counselors were being sent to the store, which closed for the day soon after the man was killed.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, Lowe's said in a statement. The home improvement retailer is also launching an internal investigation.

Additional details were not immediately available.

A woman who answered the store's phone said employees had been told not to talk to the media.
