Man Sentenced for Carving Pentagram Into Son's Back

A North Texas father was sentenced to prison for using a box cutter to carve a pentagram into his 6-year-old son's back in 2012.

A jury convicted 42-year-old Brent Bartel, of Richland Hills, Thursday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a family member and injury to a child. On Friday, he was sentenced to 11-year and 10-year sentences for the offenses that will run concurrently.

Lindy Bartel testified Tuesday in the Tarrant County court that she awoke to her son's screams and saw her husband using a box cutter on the boy. The boy, who is now 9, was treated for his wounds.

His attorney Joetta Keene said he needs to be in a hospital where he can recover from his mental illnesses.
