Md. Shootout, Death May Be Tied to Ky. Triple Homicide

Yellow tape surrounded a middle class home in southeast Kentucky on Sunday where a family was found slain in a case that might stretch all the way to Maryland, authorities said.

Police are investigating whether the killings are linked to a high-speed chase and shootout Saturday between a suspect and police in Baltimore County. The chase ended when the suspect, Jason C Hendrix, of Corbin, Kentucky, crashed into a silver sedan and then shot at police. One officer was injured. Hendrix was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Baltimore County Police, detectives contacted police in Corbin to visit the address to which the Honda Pilot was registered. Police reportedly found bodies when they arrived at the home.

"Corbin police subsequently began a death investigation involving multiple victims at that address,'' a police statement said.

The two agencies are working together to try to determine if there is a link between the incident in Maryland and the killings in Kentucky. The statement also said that police believe Hendrix was a juvenile with connections to Corbin, Kentucky.

The police officer who was shot was treated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according an earlier statement from Baltimore County Police. He was released Sunday.

The Lexington Herald-Leader, citing information from a statement by the Corbin Police Department, said Kevin and Sarah Hendrix were found dead of gunshot wounds Saturday at their home in Corbin. The body of a girl who was not identified in the reports was also found.

Michelle Payne, a neighbor who lives across the street, said a police officer stopped by her home Saturday afternoon and asked if she had seen a green Honda Pilot.

She hadn't seen the family since Tuesday evening, when Kevin Hendrix walked the family dog.

She said they were a nice family, attending a community church a short distance away. The family had bees and sold honey, she said.

"They're just your classic small-town family,'' Payne said.

Six Baltimore County Police officers fired their weapons during Saturday's shootout. They will be placed on administrative status pending a review of the incident.
