Blue Buffalo Company, Ltd. — based in Wilton, Connecticut — is recalling Blue Kitty Yums Chicken Recipe Cat Treats over low levels of propylene glycol, the FDA announced Friday. The chemical is prohibited in cat food.

The affected products are sold in 2-ounce packages and were sold across the United States and Canada, according to the FDA.

Cats who ingest the affected product may show signs of depression and exhibit a loss of coordination, muscle twitching, excessive urination and extreme thirst, according to the FDA, which has received one report of a cat believed to have fallen ill after eating the treats.

Pet owners who believe their animals are affected should contact a veterinarian.
