NJ Man Creates Fake Female Identity, Falsely Reports Kidnapping Overseas: Officials

Federal prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man admitted creating a fake female identity and falsely reporting the girl's kidnapping to U.S. embassies overseas.

Andriy Mykhaylivskyy, a 19-year-old Rutherford man who is also known as Andriy Haddad, pleaded guilty Wednesday to making false statements to a U.S. official. He faces five years in prison when he's sentenced June 25.

Prosecutors say Mykhaylivskyy created an Internet identity, including Facebook and Twitter profiles, for Kate Fulton and started an online relationship with a then 18-year-old New Jersey student.

In July 2013, Mykhaylivskyy called the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova, and claimed Fulton had been kidnapped while vacationing in Bulgaria the previous month. He also sent out online Tweets from an account belonging to Fulton, including one that read, "someone help me."
