Porsche 911 Turbo Catches Fire at New York International Auto Show

The older-model sports car burst into flames in a special events wing of the auto show

A Porsche 911 Turbo caught fire at the New York International Auto Show Thursday, forcing workers to douse the flames with fire extinguishers and spewing smoke around part of the Javits Convention Center.

The older-model sports car burst into flames in a special events hall at the sprawling complex shortly before noon, according to social media posts from people who were at the yearly event.

Sources involved with the event told NBC 4 New York that it was a small electrical fire and that it was quickly extinguished. No one was injured in the blaze.

Video from the scene shows flames spewing from the rear passenger's side tire of the Porsche and workers dousing the car with fire extinguishers.

One witness said that the car was set to be part of a special presentation set to kick off Friday.

Other people visiting other parts of the auto show Thursday said they had no idea anything was wrong.

"That could have been traumatizing," said Linden Samuels of Flatbush, Brooklyn. "I didn't know anything was going on."
