Pa. Co-Pilot Fails Breathalyzer Test Before Flight From Detroit to Philly, Gets Arrested

A co-pilot who failed two Breathalyzer tests prior to a flight from Detroit to Philadelphia, causing the flight to be canceled, has been arrested, authorities said.

The pilot was detained Saturday after he was suspected of being drunk and failed the two tests, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The flight was set to take off from Detroit Metropolitan Airport and land at Philadelphia International Airport.

The pilot was detained after arriving at the suburban Detroit airport. He was later arrested, but officials have not specified the exact charges against him.

Conway says the pilot is in his early 50s and from Pennsylvania. His identity has not been made public.

American Airlines spokeswoman Laura Nedbal said in a statement the flight was canceled and customers were taking other flights.

Airline officials declined to discuss the co-pilot, but say they were assisting investigators.
