Police Bust Heroin Ring After 2-Year Investigation

Police say $3.2 million, or 80,000 dosages, of heroin were sold in Maine

Fifteen people were arrested Tuesday on charges of trafficking more than $3.2 million worth of heroin after what police say was likely the largest-ever drug investigation in Oxford County, Maine.

More than 20 police officers arrested the individuals who are charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated trafficking in heroin, among other charges, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Police said Del Hathaway, 26, of Saco, Maine, and his girlfriend, Brianna Thayer, 26, of Bean Station, Tennessee, were the main suppliers of the drug ring, which brought heroin into Maine from Lynn, Massachusetts.

Police said the suspects allegedly imported and distributed 17.8 pounds of heroin, or about 80,000 dosages, throughout Oxford County from January 2013 to April of this year.

An Oxford County grand jury indicted the individuals after a two-year investigation by the Maine DEA, which worked with Oxford County law enforcement and state police.
