Porsche Shredded After Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Tractor-Trailer on George Washington Bridge

A 50-year-old man broke both his ankles and his pelvis in an allegedly alcohol-fueled crash involving his Porsche and a tractor-trailer on the George Washington Bridge early Thursday, law enforcement sources say.

Police say the tractor-trailer was moving westbound on the upper level of the span shortly before 1 a.m. when it was hit by a 2003 Porsche. The Porsche became wedged under the truck and was apparently dragged for a bit before the tractor-trailer driver stopped.

Emergency crews responded and pulled the injured Porsche driver out of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital.

Investigators say a nearly empty bottle of vodka was found in the Porsche and the injured driver allegedly smelled like alcohol. He was arrested shortly after the accident and charged with DWI, reckless driving and having an open alcohol container in the car.

A photo of the Porsche (above) shows it was completely demolished in the accident.

No charges were filed against the tractor-trailer driver.
