Prosecutors: Teen Told Classmate of Murder Plans on Facebook

Thomas Braasch ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail

A 19-year-old man in suburban Chicago told a classmate on Facebook last week that he’d been planning to kill him and said he would shoot him at school the next day, officials alleged Sunday.

Thomas Braasch, 19, was charged with disorderly conduct for threatening a fellow student at Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights, Ill., according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Prosecutors said Braasch was stopped immediately when he arrived at school the day after the threat was made and was taken to an office and searched, the Sun-Times reported.

No weapon was found during the search but Assistant State’s Attorney Anthony Gattuso reportedly said the teen told the school’s staff he planned to kill his classmate and allegedly told police of his plans to bring a gun to school to “pop” the student.

The report notes Braasch said he was aware he would get in trouble for the online threat and was ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail Sunday.
