Sen. Charles Schumer is asking federal officials to review security at the World Trade Center site after authorities said a series of daredevils sneaked into its signature skyscraper.
Schumer said the Department of Homeland Security should test surveillance equipment at the site, survey the perimeter for possible illegal entry points and check security guards' performance.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns the site. Security chief Joseph Dunne says the agency and a company managing the tower's security "have taken significant steps to address" recent lapses.
In the last two weeks, a teenager was charged with climbing to the top of the 1,776-foot spire of 1 World Trade Center, and three skydiving enthusiasts turned themselves in to face charges in a September jump off the building.
The former head of security for 1 World Trade Center, David Velazquez, resigned last week following the arrests.
