Sole Surviving Fire Victim Wishes For Christmas Cards From Around the World

Safyre Terry is the only member of her family to survive a devastating house fire two years ago. Her survival is a testament to her father’s love. He cradled and protected her from breathing hot air. His actions are attributed to saving her life.

An intruder set fire to the family’s Schenectady, New York, apartment in May 2013. Safyre’s father, David Terry, and her siblings Layah, 3, Michael, 2, and Donovan, 11 months, were killed. Safyre has endured 50 surgeries. She bears the physical scars from the fire. More than 75 percent of her body was burned, resulting in the loss of her left foot and right hand.

Despite all that she’s been through, “she wakes every morning with a smile on her face. She is the true definition of hope, faith and love," said her aunt, Liz Dolder.

Dolder regularly updates her progress on the Safyre Schenectady's Super Survivor Facebook page.

The spirited child has one Christmas wish this year -- to receive Christmas cards from all over the world. Read about how the family is honoring her wish and how social media is playing a role.
