Spilled Beer Leads to Fatal Shooting at Illinois Gas Station

The shooting happened Saturday in Sauget, which is located in the greater St. Louis area

Police say a man has been shot dead at a southwestern Illinois gas station convenience store after a friend dropped a pack of beer that sprayed on the gunman's shoe.

"You gonna buy me new shoes?" the suspect said, according to the Belleville News-Democrat.

Sauget Police Chief Patrick Delaney says the gunman approached a group of friends buying beer and demanded one. He says the men refused and the 12-pack slipped from the buyer's hands, sending out a spray of beer.

Delaney says the suspect grabbed a .45-caliber handgun from his car and returned to shoot one of the men.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports the victim was identified as 26-year-old Oscar C. Carbajal of St. Louis.

Police are examining surveillance video and are confident they'll be able to quickly identify the shooter.
