2 Stabbed at Tufts University

Police on the Tufts University campus in Medford, Massachusetts, are investigating after two men were stabbed.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity at 98 Professors Row, a street that runs through the campus.

According to police, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man are being treated for stab wounds at Massachusetts General Hospital. The younger man's wounds are not life-threatening, but the 20-year-old suffered a more serious injury.

Tufts says the victims are not affiliated with the university.

Police initially ordered a shelter-in-place while they conducted a search of the area, but later lifted the restriction and said that the crime was not a random act.

Somerville Police say that they have identified a student at Tufts as a person of interest in the case; however, no arrests have been made.

Delta Tau Delta later released a statement to address the incident which reads, in part:

"We do know classes have ended for the spring semester and only a small number of men are occupying the chapter house during the summer academic term which starts shortly. Delta Tau Delta is cooperating with the police investigation as it proceeds. At this time our thoughts are focused on the speedy recovery of the injured parties."

Tufts says there will continue to be enhanced police presence on campus. Anyone with information is asked to contact campus police at 617-627-3030.
