Teen Shot in Kalamazoo Rampage Says First Word

The family of a 14-year-old girl who survived a mass shooting in southwestern Michigan says the teen has spoken her first word in nearly three weeks.

Abigail Kopf said "pig" on Thursday, according to a GoFundMe page supported by the family.

"This gives us great hope that she will regain her speech," her family said on the GoFundMe page.

Police say Abigail was among eight people shot in the Kalamazoo area on Feb. 20. The suspect, Jason Dalton, is accused of randomly targeting people between shuttling passengers for Uber. He's charged with murder and attempted murder.

Abigail was shot in the head in a restaurant parking lot. Four women with her were killed, as were two people at a car lot. Another victim also survived.

Abigail was transferred this week to a rehabilitation center in Grand Rapids.
