Thief Steals Christmas Gifts, Puppy From South Florida Family

A South Florida family was the victim of a Christmas Grinch, who not only stole the presents from under their tree, but something even more precious: their beloved puppy.

The Moncada family arrived at their northwest Miami-Dade home Thursday evening to find that thieves had burglarized their house, stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics and other presents for the kids.

"I'm the mom. I'm supposed to be strong for them but it's hard when you have someone doing this. It's a huge violation for all of us," Edda Moncada said.

But it's not the stolen gifts that has left Edda so emotional. The burglars also took off with the family dog, a 5-month-old Yorkie named Mickey. The puppy was a birthday gift for her daughter Gianna, 4, in September.

The family has been hard at work to find Mickey, making fliers and spreading the word that he's gone. They've repaired the window the thieves broke in through, and hired a security crew to install an alarm system.

"He's our family, he's part of us. And that's all we are asking for. It's for Mickey to come home safe. My kids are asking if he's going to be back by Christmas and I wish I could guarantee that for them," Edda said.

If you know anything about this case, you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
