A mother of four died from her injuries Sunday morning after she was shot in the forehead and the leg while walking her dog near Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Saturday night.

The gunman shot the victim, identified by her son as 42-year-old Kathryn Berry, around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Morse and North 33rd streets in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city, authorities said.

"She went to the store," said Brenda Mattier, who witnessed the shooting. "She's walking down the street and he was standing right there waiting for her and just shot her."

Berry's daughter found her mother on the ground moments after the shooting, according to investigators.

Officers transported Berry to Hahnemann University Hospital where she was listed in extremely critical condition. She was later pronounced dead around 4:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police said they have not made any arrests and are unsure of a motive. Investigators believe the gunman targeted her however.

Berry's family members told NBC10 she worked as a home health aide and was a mother of four children.

"She was a dear, sweet woman," said James Graves, a relative of Berry's. "She was a good heart."

Family members also say she never had issues with anyone, never received any threats and have no idea who killed her.

The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and ran from the scene, according to investigators. He is described as a heavy-set man standing between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet with a grey and black beard, carrying a silver handgun.
