Women Say Pennsylvania Psychiatrist Inappropriately Touched Them During Sessions

Four women have testified that a suburban Philadelphia psychiatrist touched them inappropriately during sessions last year.

The (Doylestown) Intelligencer reports that the woman testified Wednesday in Bucks County Court in the trial of 42-year-old Dr. Basem Shlewiet.

Eight women between the ages of 17 and 33 have alleged that inappropriate touching by the defendant started with heart rate and blood pressure checks and progressed to fondling.

“It was like he was checking my ovaries,” a 22-year-old woman testified, according to the Intelligencer. She added that on a subsequent visit, Shlewiet made a comment about her nipple ring.

“He asked me if it hurt,” she said. “That was a red flag ... He was just creepy.”

Defense attorneys said the patients never confronted him about their concerns, and some of them went back for additional visits.

One woman testified Wednesday under defense cross-examination that it was difficult to switch psychiatrists, and she only went back to get a prescription for more medication.
