What to Know

  • 50 United States accents have been ranked, and two tri-state accents came in dead last, while the Texan accent ranked the 'sexiest'
  • The Long Island accent was ranked the least sexy accent in the United States, and the New Jersey accent was ranked second-worst
  • The study was conducted among a sample from a travel website's 1.5 million social media followers

The sexiest -- and least sexy -- accents in the United States have been ranked, and 'Californian' cracked the top 10.

In a survey run by travel company Big 7 across its 1.5 million social media followers, the California accent was ranked the tenth sexiest in the country.

"The typical Californian accents sounds similar to General American, meaning to American ears it isn’t an accent at all. But we’re here to tell you that it is. Vowels are super long, so yep, dude really does become ‘duuuuuude’. But it sounds hella sexay," Big 7 said in its rankings.

"California Valley" didn't fare as well. It comes in at No. 46.

"The often-ridiculed San Fernando “Valley Girl” accent rose to fame in the 1980s, but is still spoken by many in South California today. Like, awesome?" Big 7 said in the rankings summary.

The Texan accent was voted the most desirable. The "general American" accent was ranked 32nd on the list, with Big 7 defining it as the one you're most likely to hear on television -- Stephen Colbert being a prime example.
