The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office gave Apple a patent for a curved touchscreen display Tuesday, which may mean that Apple is going to be creating a device that will use curved screens.
The patent, U.S. Patent No. 8,603,574, calls for a "curved touch sensor" and gives details on how Apple will create such a surface without warping, according to AppleInsider. Apple will use thin-film conductors to create "a desired thinness" over plastic. However, it's unclear if Apple's patent is meant for a consumer product.
Apple's patent coming at this time isn't a fluke. Curved displays are becoming attractive to consumers, such as Samsung's Galaxy Round. Samsung is one of Apple's major rivals, so this patent award may help to stem its success. Curves are also found on the LG G Flex, but not on its display.

Will this mean that Apple is gearing up for major litigation, or is this just a competitive volley to its rivals?
