Bergdahl Could Face 5 Years if He Deserted

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl could face up to five years in prison if he is found to be a deserter, NBC News reported. However, military justice professor at Yale Law School Eugene R. Fidell said that the military may want to wait for army leaders to “get their head wrapped around this situation.” Military officials told NBC News on Tuesday that they would conduct a “comprehensive, coordinated” review that will include speaking to Bergdahl himself. If the military can prove he deserted with hazardous intentions, the penalty could be five years in either civilian or military prison, Fidell said.
