Candy Cane Crumbs Prompt Hazmat Response to Boston Courthouse

The building was temporarily evacuated due to the ongoing investigation

Emergency crews responded to a Boston courthouse for a hazmat call on Friday, only to find out the substance that sparked the concern was a crushed candy cane.

The hazardous materials call came in around 11:30 a.m. from Dorchester District Court at 510 Washington St. reporting a suspicious substance in an envelope that was mailed to the court. The building was temporarily evacuated due to the ongoing investigation.

Boston police and fire officials could be seen standing outside the building.

In the end, though, the white, powdered substance that prompted the response was determined to be nothing but candy, according to fire officials.
