Fire officials rescued two men from broken scaffolding dangling from a Loop high-rise Saturday afternoon.
Patrick Maloney, Battalion Chief for Special Operations with the Chicago Fire Department, confirmed the incident which occurred shortly after 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon at a high-rise at Wabash and Monroe in the Loop.
"We had two window washers on a scaffolding stage when one of the sides of the stage dropped," Maloney said. "They were in danger, in their harnesses, dangling at approximately the 15th floor," he added.
"We had to do rope rigging, take out part of the window, and lower the ropes. They were able to do a self rescue, we didn't have to put anyone over," he continued.
"They were a little bit in distress but comforted that the Chicago Fire Department was on the scene," Maloney added.
The two men were examined by EMS on the scene and found to be shaken up, but uninjured. They were not hospitalized, according to the CFD.
The scaffolding company is on the scene to evaluate the structure and cause of the break, Maloney said.
