Home Invaders Kill Delaware Man; Teen Girl Dies in Crossfire: Police

One of two suspects in a Delaware home invasion that resulted in the deaths of a man and teenage girl, who police said accompanied the suspects, surrendered overnight.

Saleem Shabazz, 21, and Matthew Harrington, 23, both of Philadelphia, allegedly entered a home on the 1400 block of John Clark Road in Dover, Delaware, around 1:40 a.m. Saturday.

A woman told police one of the suspects shot her father, later identified as Clifton Leager, 52, who lived at the home, during a struggle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Leagerโ€™s son, who was inside the home at the time, was also shot during the altercation but managed to chase after the suspects as they fled. Leagerโ€™s son was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

During the chase, more shots were fired and a teen, identified by state police as 18-year-old Haley Henwood, of Philadelphia, was struck. Henwood was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Investigators said Henwood accompanied Shabazz and Harrington to the home.

Around 8 p.m. Sunday, Harrington turned himself in to Buckingham Township Police in Pennsylvania. He remained jailed in Bucks County awaiting extradition on murder charges, police said.

Investigators continued to search for Shabazz โ€“ a slim man, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds โ€“ who is considered armed and dangerous. Shabazz is wanted for murder, armed robbery and related counts.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a four-door dark-colored SUV.

Police asked anyone with information on Shabazz's whereabouts to call 911 or contact Det. D. Grassi at 302-365-8441.
