What to Know: Getty Fire Evacuations, Road Closures and Updates

The Getty Fire started early Monday in the hills above the 405 Freeway

Some of the evacuations ordered early Monday in hillside neighborhoods on Los Angeles' Westside due to a fast-moving brush fire remained in effect 24 hours later as fire crews prepared for the most powerful winds of the season.

The Getty Fire began around 1:30 a.m. and, driven by strong winds, quickly burned through brush to the west of the 405 Freeway. A red flag warning expired at 6 p.m. Monday, but winds are expected to pick up again Tuesday night when the region will again be under a fire weather warning.

The most powerful Santa Ana winds of the season are expected through Thursday.

"We're going to be dealing with another round of strong Santa Ana winds," said NBC4 forecaster Shanna Mendiola. "This time, we could see gusts up to 70 mph. That makes it the strongest round of the season."

More than 7,000 homes are still threatened by the Getty Fire, which was at more than 650 acres early Tuesday.
